The loss of a Premier League great; Sergio Aguero leaves Man City.

Manchester City have said goodbye to a true legend. Argentinian superstar Sergio Agüero has left Manchester City as one of the most decorated players in the history of the club.

The 33-year-old has agreed a move to Spanish giants Barcelona. The player City fans call “Kun” leaves the club with 5 Premier League titles, 1 FA Cup, 6 League Cups, and one moment that will always be known as one of the best in Premier League History; 93:20.

Sergio Agüero leaves the Citizens as the highest goalscorer in the history of the club with 260 goals in 390 games and the most goals for a single club in the history of the Premier League (184), beating Wayne Rooney’s previous record with a brace against Everton in the final game of the 2020/21 season and in his final game at the Etihad stadium. Agüero’s 5 minute brace in the 71st and 76th minute epitomised what he had been doing for City for the last 10 years.

The goal-scoring prowess is still very much alive and playing with compatriot Lionel Messi next season at Camp Nou will certainly add to his impressive goal-scoring record.

With the highest goal-per-minute ratio in Premier League history – history being repeated a lot here – there is no other striker Manchester City have looked too for all of their important, crucial goals since he arrived. His final appearance for Manchester City came in the recent Champions League Final defeat in Porto at the hands of Chelsea.

When reflecting on his move to Barcelona, Sergio said:

“we all know that Barcelona are the best club in the world,

“I made a great decision to be here and it is a step forward in my career.”

Agüero moved to the Catalan club as they look to build on their third place finish in La Liga.

Chairman of Manchester City Khaldoon Al Mubarak reflected on Sergio’s time at the Etihad and said:

“he is the arguably the greatest striker in the history of the Premier League, he is at least in everybody’s top 3,

“one can not forget that goal against QPR,

“Sergio will leave with a legacy that is unforgettable.”

Chairman of Man City has reminisced on the time of Kun and insists the team, owners and backroom staff are eternally grateful for everything he has delivered for this club over the period of 10 years he has been at the Etihad.

“the perfect professional; humble, committed and delivering on the pitch.”

“he will be appreciated for the next 100 years as one of the greatest players to have ever worn a City jersey.”

Manchester City and Agüero are now looking forward to their respective seasons and endeavours and one thing is for certain; there will never be another like Sergio Kun Agüero.
